Yeah, yeah, we know — the best part about Breckenridge is having a few days to tear up the mountain. After all, Breck offers some of the best skiing in the country!
And if you have time for that, great! But sometimes, you just don’t. Whether you’re in Denver for a short business trip or traveling to Colorado with non-skiers, you may want to drop into Breckenridge just to check out the cute little ski town and get a little taste of winter wonderland.
Here’s the thing — Breckenridge has something for everyone. It’s a great town with mountain charm, with plenty of spots to check out if you’re only in town for the day. Lucky for you, we have a Breckenridge tour that offers round-trip transportation to and from Denver so you don’t even have to worry about driving on I-70. We’ve got you covered!
Whether you’re riding with us or visiting on your own, here are some of our favorite things to do in Breckenridge.
Get a Cup of Coffee and Stroll Around Town
Listen, Breckenridge is at 9,600 feet. And that’s just down in town — head to the summit and you’re at damn near 13,000. That’s pretty high!
Since the air is thin up here, we recommend you just stroll around town to stretch your legs a bit and get used to things. The town itself is pretty flat, so you won’t notice it too much until you tackle some stairs or a hill, but then you’ll know.
Breckenridge offers several coffee shops to choose from, but our favorite is Cool River Coffee House. There’s nothing quite like a warm drink in your hands while you walk around a ski town!
Or, Grab a Beer
Perhaps you’d prefer something a bit colder. Frothier. Hopped to perfection. Breckenridge certainly has you covered there!
And if there are two things Colorado knows, it’s skiing and beer. There are several pubs and tap houses along Main Street as well as a couple of local breweries to choose from. The famous Breckenridge Brewery & Pub is located at the south end of the main drag, with our favorite, Broken Compass, (seriously, who doesn’t love the “Drink Beer. Pet Dogs.” merch?) close by. And be on the lookout for Highside Brewing’s newest taproom set to open this season!
Motherloaded Tavern, Blue Stag Saloon, and Kenosha Breck’s Happy Hour are other favorites. So yeah… if you’re looking to grab a beer, or two, or three — you’ve got options!
Ride the Gondola
You don’t have to ski to take a 10-minute ride up the mountain. You’ll get beautiful views and a taste of the mountain vibe without all of the rental fees and lift tickets. Simply hop on Breckenridge’s FREE gondola from town up to the Peak 8 Base Area, where you’ll find some mountain activities in the summer months, including a roller coaster, SuperSlide, mini golf course, and more.
Plus, summit dining! You can have your après-ski without even skiing. We won’t judge.
Get in the Snow
When you’re in Breckenridge, especially during ski season, you may not be able to fight the urge to get in the snow. Go nuts!
You don’t need to ski or board to have a good time. Make that snowman, have a snowball fight, or enjoy one of Breckenridge’s sledding and tubing hills. There’s even a free sled shed at Runway Sledding Hill where you can borrow sleds, sort of like a free neighborhood library. Got to love ski towns!
Do Some Shopping
Breckenridge has numerous cute shops along Main Street. You’ll find everything from snow/ski gear (duh) to mountain-themed home decor and even art galleries. Pick up as many souvenirs as you’d like! Many shops will ship items home for you. If you're visiting with us, we’ll leave room in the van for your finds.
Summary
As you can see, Breckenridge overs more than just world-class resort skiing. You can dig into the mountain town vibe if you only have a day to spare. We’ll take you!
